A New Semester

With 4×4 modified block scheduling, a new semester means all new students (for most of my classes). It’s like starting the year over again, but when we’re done, it will be summer and far better weather than what we have experienced!

New classes (although I am teaching the same classes I taught last semester) and new students. I think I have a pretty good group of students, as far as I can tell after two days! I had one student thank me as she was leaving for her next class on Thursday, and one student complement the creativity of my notebook and the notes they were working on on Friday. Sometimes, it’s the little things!

Do you have little things students have said to you that made your day?

180 – Day 41

While teaching my last period class, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye…there was a new “Everytime you…”  poster. I mentioned in a previous post how the signs Bowman in Arabia created made an impression with my students and colleagues. I had no idea it made such an impression on at least one student!

I couldn’t believe it when I saw it, and I am not sure who the student that put the Morgan Freeman sign is, but I laughed out loud! Terrific! I really needed that from my students this week, they have no idea!

Also today, my Honors Precalculus students loved Vi Hart’s first Hexaflexagon video today! I have a feeling we’ll be creating some hexaflexagons in the near future!
